On 24 June 2011, at 7:00 P.M., the showdown of brains and fists begins. In the warehouse club Tape Club (Heidestraße 14, 10557 Berlin, near the Hauptbahnhof), the two oldest chessboxing clubs of the world will face off against each other: Chess Boxing Club Berlin vs. London Chess Boxing Club. The hottest city in the world will compete against the second-hottest city in the world!
I. The World Chess Boxing Organisation (WCBO) officially announces the main event:
Lukasz “Frog Kosowski” vs Daniel Lizarraga Rivas
Lukasz “Frog Kosowski” (1985) comes from Bialystok (Poland). In his youth he was considered a great chess talent and boxed for the Polish national team.
In Berlin, Kosowski was discovered by chessboxing’s inventor and leader of the Chess Boxing Club Berlin (CBCB), Iepe Rubingh. At the open try-outs in the CBCB, he demonstrated outstanding skills. Kosowski has great potential to become one of the most significant figures in chessboxing.
Kosowski enters the ring for the Chess Boxing Club Berlin weighing 74.5 kg and with a chess Elo Rating of 1750.
Daniel Lizarraga Rivas (1979) comes from the bullfighting city of Pamplona (Spain). He began his chessboxing career in the Boston Dome in London and trained in the London Chess Boxing Club under the tutelage of the English chessboxing founder and leader Tim Woolgar.
Lizarraga Rivas weighs in at 74 kg, Elo 1850. He has already defeated two fighters of CBCB in London, and a rematch remains to be seen.
II. In the 2nd undercard match, Nils Becker of Berlin fights Nick Cornish of London
Nils Becker: (1988), 81 kg, 3-time German youth national champion in chess. He has the out-standing Elo of 2144! Member of the Berlin Chessboxing Association since 2009.
Nick Cornish: (1975), 84 kg, one of the first members of the London Chess Boxing Club (founded 2008). His Elo is 1735. Both chessboxers are undefeated.
